Acceptance of these terms
These Terms & Conditions (“terms”) govern your use of imageredaction.com and the Redact editor (together, “the service”). By accessing or using the service, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
If you use the service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation to these terms. You must be old enough to consent to using an online service where you live.
The service
Redact is a free, browser-based tool for covering parts of images. It runs on your device, requires no account, and does not upload your files. The current version is provided free of charge. If paid features are introduced, their prices and terms will be shown before any purchase.
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time. We do not guarantee that the service will always be available, error-free, or compatible with every browser or file.
Your content
You keep all rights to the images you use with Redact. Because the files are processed locally, we do not receive, store, own, or license your images. We claim no ownership over your content or your exports.
You are responsible for the content you process and share. You must have the right to use and edit the image, and you must have permission to handle any personal information it contains. Do not use the service to process content you are not allowed to process.
You are also responsible for the final result. A redaction box only covers what it covers, and an automated check is not a guarantee. Review the exported image before you send it anywhere.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the service to:
- break any applicable law or regulation;
- infringe someone else’s copyright, privacy, or other rights;
- harass, threaten, defraud, or deceive anyone, or to conceal evidence or evade a lawful process;
- interfere with the security, availability, or operation of the site, including by attempting to gain unauthorised access or by automating requests in a way that burdens the service;
- misrepresent a redacted image as certified, compliant, or safe when it has not been properly checked;
- distribute malware or use the site as part of an unlawful scheme.
We may restrict or block access if we reasonably believe these rules have been broken, or if a request threatens the service or another person.
No professional advice
Redact is a utility, not legal, compliance, privacy, or security advice. A redaction produced with the tool may not satisfy a regulator, court, employer, platform, or counterparty. Nothing on this site creates a professional relationship.
Smart detection, OCR, and verification are best-effort. They can miss text, faces, codes, and other details, and blur or pixelation can sometimes be partially reconstructed. Use ink black for identity and financial details, and get professional advice when the stakes require it.
Intellectual property
The site’s design, copy, and original code are owned by us or used with permission. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute the site’s branding or content except as allowed by law or with written permission.
Third-party components remain under their own licences. For example, Tesseract.js is used under its open-source licence, and the Inter typeface is used under the SIL Open Font License. Using the tool does not give you ownership of any part of the service.
Third-party services
Smart detection loads the Tesseract.js library and language data from jsDelivr. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices, and their availability is outside our control. We are not responsible for third-party services or for the content of external sites we link to.
Manual redaction, copy, and export do not depend on those third-party requests.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date near the top of this page shows the latest version. Changes take effect when they are posted. Continuing to use the service after an update means you accept the revised terms. If you do not agree, stop using the service.
Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. That includes implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
We do not warrant that detection will find every sensitive detail, that a redaction cannot be reversed, or that the output will meet the requirements of any organisation or law. You are responsible for verifying the result.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, goodwill, or business opportunity, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars (USD 50). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Redact and its operator from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the service, the content you process, or your breach of these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Subject to any consumer protection rights that cannot be waived, disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in India.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining parts stay in effect. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the service.
